-The canal-

Hey everyone.

If you remember, some time back I posted about a story of a worm which I came across one sunny day.

Well today's post is not another traumatic experience I had with another poor, helpless worm/animal/invertebrate, but it does involve fish.

The Canal

Well to kickstart your memory, behind my house lies quite a wide, semi-forested field area.

Perpendicular to this field, is the path upon which I spotted the worm.

And where this path turns to run parallel to the canal, which is behind the field, and then leads to a bridge across the canal.

Now in this canal, fishes - or at least that's what they look like - are aplenty.

Not the kind of koi or trout or salmon you'd expect to find in a stream, but.. umm I don't even know what to classify them as.

Haha maybe just fishies for now.

Anyway, as the title suggests, I'm gonna post about what goes on in the canal.

Nope, sorry to get your hopes down, but it's not some beautiful story of how a blue collar kingfisher hunts his/her prey today.

Rather, it's about people.

Lately, I've been noticing an increasing trend. Of what?

Of people, fishing.

Yes, fishing.

And I don't just mean children, I mean full grown adults too!!

People bringing down large red pails, fishing nets or substitutes such as clothes and lotsa other stuff.

They leave they're belongings and bicycles by the canal railings, jump in and start umm... fishing? Or trying to.

Haha and all the school children (as there is a primary school next door) jump in and play around in the water.

Now think of this: Dirty, gross, polluted, muddy, sandy etcetc water.

First thing that comes to mind?: EEEYYUUUUCKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!

That is exactly what I thought too.

But when I see the look on they're faces, their pure joy in simplicity, sometimes I can't help but marvel.

Weren't we all like that too like 15-20 years ago?

Bet our parents all played in similar condition rivers back then too.

Now, technology comes along, and we waste lotsa money on movies, computer games, cds etcetc, things left are barely of the simplest level at all.

But I believe people of the past must have kept themselves happy and occupied with something too right?

In this fast-changing world, people are even afraid of just sweating, much less playing in muddy fields or dirty areas.

We stare at such people, give them weird looks as if they're society outcasts just because what they do is... disgusting??

Dirt, bacteria, infectious wounds that might come about.

That's just what's been so publicised in our world today.

But past generations did not know that did they??

And thus, they're simplistic, ecstatic fun was not at all hindered.

Ignorance truly is bliss sometimes, ain't it??

Haha... guess there's a little of heaven everywhere.

Well, who knows, I just may jump in one day too..

-The Generation Gap?-

Finally the Prelims are over.

Well, almost.

Anyway, today after like 3++ hours of DOTA after the ultra short geog paper, two of my friends and I trailed this other guy all the way from Plaza Sing to Taka.

The walk is kickass long.

Actually not too keen to post on what happened.

Then
So after the ordeal was over, I went home by MRT from Orchard.

I was waiting at the door to enter beside two elderly people, and um.. others.

The train was ultra crowded, as usual, and upon entering these two elderly folk began to immediately look for a place to seat.

One 50+ year old woman indicated to them that they could take her seat.

Unfortunately in their haste to rush for empty seats, they didn't see her.

I tried to signal to them that a seat was being offered too but they didn't notice me either.

I heaved a sigh and smiled at that woman, who of course had that "Oh well.." look on her face.

Laughing inwardly I walked over and stood at the part of the train between carriages.

And I noticed that at every stop, if ever an elderly party walked on, she'd offer her seat.

Now think of this:

There were so many other people, people younger, more able-bodied and strong who had seats too, and yet this 50yr-old was the only one to offer her seat???

It almost made me bow my head in shame.

YOung people nowadays, pretending to be asleep or acting uber tired the moment an elderly person walks on the train.

I mean, sure, there are times when you are like that and dearly want the seat too.

But surely not all the young at the same time???

I mean, even if you were tired, you still should give up your seat? That should be the way ain't it.

Come to think of it, the only people I've sen offering seats are middle-aged folks.

What's this world coming to?

Or rather, this generation?

What happened to respect and courtesy?

I wonder, is it just Singapore? Or the whole world.

But why do I care, as long as it's happening it's wrong.

Haiz... what can be done.. the world just goes on...

What do you think is the greatest invention ever?

The Air-Conditioner?

Television?

Lightbulb?

Internet?

Handphone?

Laptop?

Medicine?(In general)

Musical Instruments?

Watch?

Clocks?

And the list goooooes on...

If we were to contemplate the number of high tech gadgets that convenience our lives each day, who is to say which is the greatest?

For me, I believe that it truly is to each his own.

Medicine for example, can save a life.

Refrigerators spare everyone the need to use excessive salt or hunting everyday.

The heater gives you a nice, soothing and warm shower when your whole body aches.

Even for one person, what he/she thinks the greatest invention is could differ from moment to moment.

But I believe sometimes the greatest inventions can be the simplest. For example, shoes.

Shoes enable one to tread the globe safely without fear of getting blistered feet or cutting the underfoot against a sharp object.

They help keep the feet pretty clean too. At least, mud-free.

Hmm.. another one would be spectacles. Yeah that's a good one.

Glasses/spectacles/contact lenses help the blind or short-sighted regain umm.. focus?

Think of how many poor people would be squinting each moment to read labels or books or watch television...

But then again.. spectacles weren't invented since the dawn of time.

See I mean that, if you took spectacles away from the world today, huge quantities of people would be inconvenienced.

But, 1000 years ago, it wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Now this comes into play with the theory that everything interlinks.

Without language there would be no writings.

Without writings there would be no books.

Without books there would be no squinting to read in the dark.

Without squinting to read in the dark, there would be no specs.

Follow my train of thought?

Yes there can and probably are many innumerable factors that come into play, and this is just one of them.

Sigh... is it not strange that once one begins to blog he/she feels like blogging the whole world but sometimes nothing he/she intended really was blogged or somewhere along the line the topic changes?

Or the just simply isn't enough time. Hee..

Well I think the greatest invention would be language.

Now this can be implied in many many forms such as communication and stuff, but what I mean is this interlinkage.

Language=Writing.

Writing=Books.

Books=History

History=The Holy Bible.

The Holy Bible=HIstory of the Saviour who died on the cross.

History of the Saviour who died on the cross=History of message of salvation for all.

History of message of salvation for all=Salvation.

Salvation=Heaven.

Haha that's pretty extracted.

So...

What's your inter-linkage?

What's your story?

OneTwoThree...

You know I've been thinking...

I've got this knack in me.

I love to count.

Now see that is ironic because my maths are not exactly excellent.

What I mean?

You see.. I have this..

Subconscious habit?

See whenever I walk..

Yes I mean walk in general as in walk/tread/run,

I tend to count the number of steps I take.

And unless I make a conscious effort to try and forget,

or my mind is deeply entrenched in some other world,
(take note I said deeply)

I will remember exactly how many steps I take.

It is amplified with stairways.

I tend to remember how many steps there are at every stairwell.

Probably know all the steps there are in the school-or almost.

And I have this semi-built in thing.. I seem to know the exact no. of steps there are at stairways before I even start counting.

That mean I can tell by just looking.

Now I haven't exactly proved this yet,

but it suprisingly is accurate whenever I remember to try.

Now what do you call the people who have the ability to know how many marbles there are in a jar in just a split second again??

I'm not one of them.

I just...

count..

most of the time...

"the average human takes about 8,000 steps a day.."

"if you want to keep fit just by walking, take more than 45 steps per 20 seconds.."

"30-40 steps in 20 seconds, calories are also being burnt away, though at a slower rate"

zoom

Hi.

As of one hour ago, my dad was rushed to A&E again.

This time however, instead of my brother fetching him, we called an ambulance.

He probably is at Tan Tock Sing now.

How great.

I've got Social Studies Prelim Paper tomorrow in addition with 'O' Lvl English Oral Examinations.

At least I know the topics coming out tomorrow.

Haha.

Actually I think I am exaggerating a lil'.

It's not so bad.

Really.

Just pray for my dad okay?

Thank you.

blur [Part One]

Well, couple of things happened these past few days.

Not everything was exactly worth rejoicing. Let me just start from friday.

This past friday was my English Prelim Paper.

I think my a1's out the window *haiz*... burr..

Anyways so after that my friends dragged me to this guys house to *play* to *relieve stress* even though I just wanted to go home cos I was tired.

Also because I had to go queue for Festival Of Praise[FOP] at 4 sth..

ANYways I had no choice but to go. Hung around his place till I realised it was ALREADY 230pm!!!!!!!!! And I had to be at Kallang MRT at 430. Well done.

So I had to rush home and a super ultra long 1 hour bus ride.

Got home, changed, didn't even have time to wash up, grabbed my bible and rushed off.

Well... I got there around 430+ so not so bad.

And here is the continuation of my worries.

Let me tell you now, that the most infrequent bus in the WHOLE of Singapore is bus no. 11 from Kallang Bus Interchange to the Indoor Stadium.

Frequency? Hourly. And I only found out on Saturday.

To cut a long story of a very long story short, we cut queue for a chartered bus that came at 5. So we got into the already very long line at about 5.15pm

Waited til 630 for doors to open before got in.

Haiz... Had lots and lots of trouble finding seats. Lucky someone booked for us.

Then FOP started.

I tell you, Delirious? rocks my sock's socks.

OHHHHHHHH YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

The preacher who's supposedly one of the best in the UK sorta fell short of my expectations but.. nvm.

Ok here comes the worst part.

After the concert ended I missed the last bus home.

I had only 4 meagre dollars with me.

Then I received a message from my sister:

"Daddy has just been rushed to A & E cos of heavy bleeding. Pls pray for him"

Can you imagine the state I was in? It was 1230++ am, I was all alone at a deserted bus stop far far away from home, my parents wouldn't be at home to pay for my cab fare, my sis had no money and neither did I, and to top it all off my dad's been rushed to A&E and I had absolutely no idea if his condition was critical or not.

That reaaaaally sucks.
